Run for Democratic Committee

Becoming a Democratic Committee Member is one of the most direct ways to shape the future of our party and community.

What is a Democratic Committeeperson?

Democratic Committeepeople are the grassroots foundation of the Democratic Party. Each voting precinct (also called a division) in Pennsylvania can elect committeepeople to represent registered Democrats in that area.

As a committeeperson, you become a voting member of the Bucks County Democratic Committee (BCDC), which means you have a direct voice in party decisions at the county level.

What Do Committeepeople Do?

  • Help get Democrats elected by knocking doors, making calls, or helping at the polls on Election Day
  • Represent your neighbors by being a local contact for Democratic voters in your precinct
  • Support voter registration and get-out-the-vote efforts in your community
  • Attend committee meetings to stay informed and participate in party decisions
  • Vote on endorsements and help elect party leadership

The time commitment is flexible. Some committeepeople are highly active volunteers, while others participate mainly by attending meetings and voting. You decide how involved you want to be.

How to Run for Committee

1

Find Your Precinct

Check your voter registration to find your precinct (division) number. Look up your voter registration here.

2

Collect Signatures

You need at least 10 signatures from registered Democrats in your precinct. We recommend collecting 15-20 signatures in case any are challenged. Tip: You can sign your own petition! Each precinct has two committee seats, so each voter can sign up to two different petitions.

3

File Your Petition

Submit your completed petition to the Bucks County Board of Elections. For the 2026 primary:
First day to circulate: February 17, 2026
Filing deadline: March 10, 2026 at 5:00 PM
Withdrawal deadline: March 25, 2026

4

Appear on the Primary Ballot

Your name will appear on the Democratic primary ballot on May 19, 2026. Registered Democrats in your precinct will vote for committeeperson along with other primary races. If you are unopposed, you win automatically. If there is competition, the candidate with the most votes wins.

Why Run?

Many committee seats across the Pennridge area are currently vacant. When seats are empty, the local party loses representation and voting power at the county level.

By stepping up to fill a seat, you help strengthen Democratic infrastructure in our community. You do not need political experience, just a willingness to participate and represent your neighbors.
