Becoming a Democratic Committee Member is one of the most direct ways to shape the future of our party and community.
Democratic Committeepeople are the grassroots foundation of the Democratic Party. Each voting precinct (also called a division) in Pennsylvania can elect committeepeople to represent registered Democrats in that area.
As a committeeperson, you become a voting member of the Bucks County Democratic Committee (BCDC), which means you have a direct voice in party decisions at the county level.
The time commitment is flexible. Some committeepeople are highly active volunteers, while others participate mainly by attending meetings and voting. You decide how involved you want to be.
Check your voter registration to find your precinct (division) number. Look up your voter registration here.
You need to collect at least 10 signatures from registered Democrats who live in your precinct. Nomination petitions will be available at the end of January from the Bucks County Board of Elections office or website. Many candidates collect more than the minimum in case some signatures are challenged.
Submit your completed petition to the Bucks County Board of Elections before the filing deadline. For the 2026 primary, petitions can be circulated starting February 17, 2026 with a filing deadline of March 10, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
Your name will appear on the Democratic primary ballot on May 19, 2026. Registered Democrats in your precinct will vote for committeeperson along with other primary races. If you are unopposed, you win automatically. If there is competition, the candidate with the most votes wins.
Many committee seats across the Pennridge area are currently vacant. When seats are empty, the local party loses representation and voting power at the county level.
By stepping up to fill a seat, you help strengthen Democratic infrastructure in our community. You do not need political experience, just a willingness to participate and represent your neighbors.
We are hosting a casual happy hour for anyone interested in running for Democratic Committee.
